Prizes and commissions
Recognition followed in several international competitions, including a piano concerto and several chamber/ensemble works. Though I have ceased to enter these now, the support of many incredible artists, organisations and kind commissioners have encouraged a belief that I have found something personal to say.
Prizes/awards post-2001:
2004 Piano Concerto no.1 =3rd prize and orchestra prize in the 1st International Uuno Klami Composition Competition, in Finland. It was performed twice and broadcast by Teppo Koivisto and the Kymi Sinfonietta.
Soaring (ob/piano) 3rd prize in the 3rd International Ivan Spassov Composition Competition in Bulgaria
2005 Sappho Songs 'Highly Commended' in the IMRO Competition, Ireland.
2006 - Soaring - 1st prize in the IMRO International Composers' Competition in Ireland. In
My River (septet) was chosen in anonymous submission from over 200 scores submitted by the North/South Consonance Ensemble, and was played in New York under Max Lifchitz.
2007 - appointment as composer-in-residence for the EMFEB orchestral/chamber music project in London by anonymous audition, with two large ensemble works subsequently performed.
Commissions
2007 David Chew the Director of the Rio 'Cello Festival in Brazil commissioned On the blue shore of silence for 'cello and piano, for performance by Lars Hoefs and Miriam Braga.
2010 Vestfold Festival in Norway for a (collaborative) solo violin work for Henning Kraggerud. This was based around an exhibition of Munch's paintings and was played five times and broadcast on Norwegian NRK Klassisk Radio in June 2010;
2010 Paul Klee Ensemble for Storyteller for solo double bass and eight players, given at the Paul Klee Centre in Bern.
2011 Coull Quartet for accept these few roses, a Janacek related piece, played twice at Wawick and Stamford Arts Centres;
2011 Spalding Flower Festival for an opening fanfare Mille Fiori.
2012 Daniel Raiskin and the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie for an orchestral work, Tu Sospiri?; also Ondřej Vrabec and the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra for Double Concerto for Horn and Orchestra, given to great acclaim in Olomouc, and later in Beijing.
2012 Douglas Gowan of Norfolk Concerts commissioned a String Quintet, though he later tried to claim that he had not done so (cf his newsletter of Feb. 2012). Honourable friends in Mainz performed it there and to a standing ovation at the Casalmaggiore Festival, Italy.
2016 Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss am Rhein under Lavard Skou Larsen commissioned a violin and strings work for soloist Fenella Humphreys - premiere Nov. 2016

2018 Musica Nova, Reutlingen - new work for viola/piano for premiere 2019
